Maya was our long-haired German Shepherd Dog for eleven great years. The first part of her life was spent with us in Minnesota, traveling daily to the Wolf Center with Elizabeth. After moving to Cambridge, Maya became the Grand Dame of Fresh Pond. This was a self-appointed position. On November 7, we said goodbye to our beloved Maya. She
had been diagnosed with Lymphoma in August, not long after our son was
born. Despite all our efforts through chemotherapy, Maya was quickly losing
the battle to the cancer. The prognosis changed quickly: months became
weeks and soon weeks became days. Maya was not an overly energetic or
gregarious spirit. She was poised and thoughtful, even stoic. And though
she could be quite vocal at times, Maya was more about presence. Now that
she is gone, that presence is lost and there is a tangible void. |
