Lave Canem

Hello to One and All,

Aloha

Well, the smiling faces have transformed to puffy eyes, runny noses and a glazed over look that can only mean one thing: hay fever has descended upon us. And therefore the birds and bees are staying very busy. I have been told that there is an old Chinese proverb that it is good luck when birds build a nest near your home. The new arrival brings happiness to those affected homeowners. We are not sure how overjoyed we are of the fact that some starlings have set up house in our LaundroMutt sign. We are just not feeling the love.

• Mark your Calendar

LaundroMutt is proud to be a sponsor of the Save A Dog 5th Annual Dog Walk “Paws in the Park 2005” on Sunday, June 12th in Bedford, MA. Save A Dog is an all-breed, all-volunteer dog rescue group devoted to helping adoptable, friendly dogs find permanent homes in the New England area. On the 12th, some of the activities that will be running throughout the day include: Blue Dog Group Frisbee Team, an agility try-out ring, micro-chip clinic, demonstrations, parade of adoptable dogs, doggie games, face painting for the kids, a silent auction, raffles, food vendors and more.
It is a month away, but save the date of Saturday, July 9th. Hotel Marlowe and LaundroMutt will be hosting the “Bark n’ Bath Charity Dog Wash” in Cambridge. The Proceeds are to benefit the Trust for Public Land. TPL is a national, nonprofit, land conservation organization that conserves land for people to enjoy as parks, community gardens, historic sites, rural lands, and other natural places, ensuring livable communities for generations to come. Hotel Marlowe is a dog friendly hotel located in Cambridge. There will be specific details in July's newsletter, but we need volunteers to sign up to help wash dogs. Please contact Elizabeth at LaundroMutt if you are interested in volunteering.

• News Coverage

Some of you may have seen Elizabeth on NECN last week. Although the interview had been scheduled for some time, it was not until she arrived on set that she discovered it was to be a live broadcast! Apparently, it was rather difficult knowing which camera to look at because they constantly switch, but she did very well. Also, sometime in June, LaundroMutt will be featured on the Comcast morning show, which is broadcast from Maryland to Maine! If you miss it, we will put a video link up on the website. And this time there will be Mac and PC links. I was just informed that 90% of the general public could view the current video link because the video is a Mac format. Oops.

• Rowing: Team LaundroMutt

Yes, rowing. The Gentle Giant Rowing Club, a non-profit organization, will be hosting its 2nd annual Community Challenge starting in June. People around the Greater Boston area will be coming together and rowing for fun and fitness. The eight-person boats will be comprised of beginning and experienced rowers… it is a great way to build teams, friendships and meet new people. The four-week session will culminate with a fun-filled final race day on July 23rd, followed by an excellent barbeque. Proceeds will help fund rowing scholarships for high school kids and promoted greater river awareness. We are starting to build our “Team LaundroMutt”, so please contact Evan at LaundroMutt if you are interested in rowing or being the coxswain. It really is a lot of fun! For more information call LaundroMutt or visit the GGRC website.

• LaundroMutt Patio

Since we announced the patio last month… it has rained for the past five weekends. This has made me grumpy. “And that’s all I have to say about that.”

• Pick of the Month

Memorial Day has come and gone, which means that the summer travel season is upon us. Images come to mind of the ocean, lakes, mountains and stuffing your vehicle full of gear to get to those desired destinations. It has occurred to me that the dog’s bed tends to eat up a large percentage of prize real estate in the car. Travel Beds by Ruff Wear for the summer. The travel beds are lightweight and compact into a tight bedroll with a handy carrying loop. Yet, when open, the beds are spacious and have ample cushion. Brumby loves his travel bed more than his normal plush-bed at home.

"My dog is worried about the economy because Alpo is up to $3.00 a can. That's almost $21.00 in dog money."
