Hello LaundroMuttans,
• Greetings
As I came to a screeching halt while attempting
to make my way through Harvard Square the other day, I realized it was
September. I had plenty of time to ponder the concept as my car was enveloped
by hordes of students, small and tall, zigzagging their way from point
A to point B. Euclid never lived in Cambridge, MA.
We hope everyone had a fantastic summer. Here
is to cooler nights and the brilliant Sugar Maple, Birch, and Poplar leaves
to come. Welcome back; it’s time to start gathering nuts.
• Charity Dog Wash and the Patriot Cheerleaders
Mark your calendar for the Dellaria
Salons Paw Wash to be held at the Dellaria Salon parking lot in Newton
Centre on Sunday, September 25 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Dog washes will
cost $10 and all proceeds from the day’s event will support the
efforts of the MSPCA’s Boston Animal Care & Adoption Center.
New England Patriots
cheerleaders, Dellaria stylists and LaundroMuttan’s
will volunteer their time and professional services to transform your
dirty dog into a squeaky-clean canine, just in time for fall.
“The MSPCA’s
Animal Care & Adoption Centers take in over 26,000 homeless and/or
abused animals every year,” said Scott Giacoppo, spokesman for the
MSPCA-Angell. “The generosity expressed through this Paw Wash will
enable us to provide more care and comfort for our animals while they’re
waiting for they’re forever home.”
In the past, Elizabeth has supervised the various
events in which LaundroMutt has been involved. But, Evan thought it was
important for him to share the responsibility and volunteered for this
event. Curious, isn’t it? Speaking of which, we will need many volunteers
for this event. So to all you “football” fans, please give
us a call or email LaundroMutt
to help us with this great cause.

• Meet and Greet: Talking dog politics
Our LaundroMutt and CDOG (Cambridge Dog Owners
Group) meet and greet was tremendously successful. In attendance was the
Mayor, several City Councilors, many people running for City Council,
Animal Control Officers, Park Rangers and a multitude of concerned dog
owners. Who knew we could pack all those people in the BarkaLounge? It
is great to see that the city is beginning to listen to the concerns and
needs of dogs and dog owners. We still have a long ways to go, though.
This is a marathon, not a sprint.
And again, if there are important city planning
meetings in other townships around the Greater Boston area, please let
us know. We would love to help and we will gladly spread the word.
• A BarkaLounge Movie Night
On Thursday, September 22 @ 7pm, LaundroMutt will
be hosting it’s first BarkaLounge movie night. We will be showing
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993), a remake of the popular
Disney classic, this time featuring some well known voices as two dogs
and a cat trek across America encountering all sorts of adventures in
the quest to be reunited with their owners. This is a movie that is fun
for all ages, from 8 to 80. As there is limited seating, please call in
advance so we can save you a seat. Running time is about 84 minutes.
• Pick of the Month
Stream of consciousness: September… cooler
weather… fall… back to school… stuff to carry…
The OllyDog Park Sling backpack. How in the world did we walk the dogs
before the Park Sling? After all, there are only have a finite number
of pockets. We have been using this product for the last two months; we
could not be more impressed… and thankful. The Sling Pack backpack
is the ultimate dog carryall: balls (both nasty and clean), Frisbees,
leashes, extra collars, water and much more. You can even transport a
Chuck-it or racquet in the webbing on the outside. The strap-mounted pocket
on the front carries a cell phone and allows quick and easy access to
baggies. Check out the details below.

The folks at OllyDog come from such companies as North Face and Sierra
Designs. It did not start as a business. It started with a few dogs and
a few friends who built gear for companies like Sierra Designs and The
North Face. Frustrated with the dog products they found in stores, they
started playing around with the high-tech materials they had lying around
at work making their own dog gear. Thus OllyDog was born.
