Hello to One and All,
• Bienvenue
So it was recently announced that the Charles
River is swimmable again. Just don’t touch the sediment on the bottom,
lest your feet be dissolved! Ahhh, Summer… this is what we dream
of during those bitterly cold and dark winter days. How did it get to
be August already?! Well, I will try to keep this short and sweet so we
can all get back outside.
• Best of Boston: LaundroMutt!
Wooo-hooo!!! LaundroMutt was singled out as Boston’s
best store in the pet industry by Boston Magazine. It is gratifying
to see that our commitment to high quality care, service and products
has been rewarded. And thank you for helping us get there. We are incredibly
proud and honored to be named “Best of Boston 2005.”
Now we know how Lance felt in 1999... just kidding.
• Bark n' Bath: a smashing success
Last month, LaundroMutt took part in the Charity
Bark n’ Bath at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge. It was a great day.
Over 160 dogs were washed with all the proceeds going to the Trust
for Public Land. At times, the line of patiently waiting, dirty dogs
stretched 30 to 40 deep! We send out a gigantic thank you to all our LaundroMutt
volunteers who were hunched over washing all those Canis familiaris. We
would also like to thank Hotel
Marlowe for hosting the event and PolkaDog
Bakery for providing doggie delicacies. Check out the photos.
• Meet and Greet
The Cambridge Dog Owners Group (C-DOG) will be
holding their first annual Meet and Greet on Saturday, August 20th between
10:30 AM and 12:30 PM at the LaundroMutt. Dog owners and dog lovers are
invited to stop by, meet one another and learn what C-DOG has been doing
to make Cambridge a more dog-friendly place to live.
Sip coffee or tea, and nibble on donuts and coffee cake while chatting
with dog training experts who just might have the solution to getting
your little Fido or Fluffy to come when called! Chat with a city councilor
and those running for city council about their stance on dog parks.
See Canine Common, a video filmed right here in Cambridge, documenting
the role dogs and dog parks play in bringing together people and communities.
Other happenings at the meet and greet-- supervised dog petting and drawing
activities for children; and lots of information about renting with pets,
responsible dog ownership, and the mission of C-DOG. And while you’re
there, don’t forget to sign the petition for safe, legal, off-leash
space for dog owners to recreate with their pets. Info: 617-547-2553 or
cdog_volunteer@yahoo.com.
CDOG and LaundroMutt are actively seeking the creation of city sanctioned
off-leash dog parks. The more people who get involved, the more quickly
the city government will respond. We need people from all corners of Cambridge
to stand up for their rights and their dog’s well being. And if
you are not a Cantabrigian, stop in anyway. We would love to see the formation
of ADOG (Arlington), BDOG (Belmont) and so on.
• Labor Day Schedule
Be sure to bring in those grubby puppies by Friday,
Sept. 2nd because LaundroMutt will be closed during Labor Day
weekend. We will be closed Saturday, Sept. 3rd through Monday,
Sept. 5th. The tubs will open back up at 10 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 6th.
• Pick of the Month
We humans are healthier and living longer than
we were ten to twenty years ago. We are working out more and eating better
foods. So when was the last time you read the ingredients label on the
grocery-store, mass produced dog biscuits? What is butylated hydroxytoluene
(BHT), anyway? I am not sure I want to know. We like Buddy Biscuits
because they are all natural and they taste great. Well, at least that
is what the dogs tell us. Buddy Biscuits come in four
scrumptious flavors: Roasted Chicken, Peanut Butter, Molasses and breath-freshening
Minty Madness. Come down to LaundroMutt and pick up a box; your dog will
love you for it.
